birthday and such
hey all, so i turned 29 yesterday, was out of town camping this weekend so havn't been able to havn't any sort of get together for it yet. So decided we would get people together for dinner next Saturday (9-15) at Mongolian BBQ on 28th st. at 6:00pm. please let me know in advance if you are planning on being there as id like to make reservations (probably going to be busy on a saturday night)

housewarming poker night
man its been a long time since I have posted anything to my blog. so for those of you I dont see often here is an update. my job is going well, i just hit the 3 month mark about a week ago. Kathy and I have been dating for a number of months now and just got an apartment together last week. all and all right now things are going really well for me.
I would like to invite everyone out to our new apartment for a housewarming party on Saturday Aug. 18, I realize some of you will be out at gencon that weekend but its the best weekend for me without waiting a month or so.
here are some details on the apartment:

directions: get off 196 at the Jenison Chicago drive exit heading west, turn right onto main st. main will curve around to the left and become Baldwin. before you get to the main intersection of Jenison (Cottenwood Dr.) turn right at the street that blockbuster is on. follow that road into the Cottenwood forest condominiums (apartments) and when you can no longer go strait the first apt you can see to the right is ours.
the plan is to play some poker (5$ buy-in if you want to play) otherwise ill have the standard array of video games and board games. ill try to provide some snacks but bring your own dinner/booze(there is a party store nearby and plenty of fast food as well) id prefer to start earlier then the standard party time as it is an apartment and we do have neighbors that id prefer not to keep up all night. so figure on showing up between 5-6 (although if we can keep the volume to a minimum i don't mind keeping the party going).

new car and a party
Im planning on having a party at my place on the 28th (saturday after next) to celebrate my new job.
Also, for those of you who recall, back in aug I started looking into what kind of car I wanted to buy this spring. well I have now purchased a new(er) car. It meets pretty much all of what I was looking for in a car other then...well the price, I spent more on the car then I had been wanting to but i spose ill justify that cause I got a new job.
Its a blue 2003 acura RSX, ill try to get some pics up sooner then later

New Job
I was offered a new job this morning wich I plan on accepting as a Junior Developer and Application Support Assistant with CQL. I will be starting my new job on Apr 30.

I hate being right sometimes
so ive been sick the last couple days. started feeling it tuesday morning and it was bad enouph that i quit going to work on thursday. from the start i was worried that i picked up whatever was gave my dad a really bad fever for most of his vacation in florida, so i called my mom on thursday to ask what he had. bronchitis. looked it up online(webmd is a wonderful thing) and i was missing the key symptom of bronchitis(the mucus in the lungs that cause caughing) everything i had was limiting itself to my head(the most significant symptom i had was a pain in the top of the mouth that made it difficult to swollow, and random stuff like headache, mild fever, stiff neck, stuff like that)
well after 2 days of spending all my time cashed out on the couch i woke up about an hour ago to.....a stuped scratchy coughy flem filled throat. stuped bronchitis. anyway i guess im going to curl up in bed again and try to go back to sleep as theres nothing better to do at 5am on a saturday.

how quickly things can change
so I know I havnt seen many of you lately. between the kid keeping me up all night and working all day i hanv't had much time to myself. If anyone wants to hangout sometime though give me a call. or if anyone wants to babysit Emily and I would love a night off.

end of weekend blog
I had a fairly good weekend. went to a pre-release magic tournament on saturday with andy, richard, brad and casey. brad took first in his 32 man flight to get a box, richard got half a box by takin first in a booster draft, and i took a box home after placing 7th out of 139 in the main event.
this morning i went to my parents for lunch and while i was eating got a call from eric to come watch allanah, whom they had just put down for a nap when they needed to go to the hospital for missy (she is due on saturday). it was a false alarm though and they called to let me know they where on there way home just as allanah was waking up. i let allanah know that mommy and daddy were on the way home...that was a bad idea, she realised they wernt home then and started to cry :(
after that i went back to the parents house and hung out, dan and i went to best buy to see if they would replace his DS that he broke the hinge on last night, they said it was a manufactures warenty and to contact nintendo, but its still well under warenty though so it shouldnt be a problem.
after that my dad and i went skiing. it was a lot of fun but we left resonably early(around 8) when the lines started to get rediculous.
anyway, im off to bed.

first ski of the season and working on avoiding gettting scammed
so far this season has been terrible for skiing. there has been no snow and too warm for them to make it. so i finally got to go skiing this season. mel and i went after her shift (she is a ski instructor out at cannonsburg). it was lots of fun, mel and i got to catch up for the first time in a really long time.
so on the last run of the night i decided to go up the side of the hill that is on the run, you know just a quick slide up and then back down like a half-pipe. was all well and good till i hit the 2 foot gap that someone dug out of the hill to make a ramp. so i bounced off the the other side of the gap and flew about 3-4 feet off the ground. almost managed to land it but took a bit of a tumble. no damage though.
on the way out of the lodge we stopped by and checked the temp....i knew it had been getting cold....but it was only 8 degrees out. that is pretty freaking cold.
so otherwise ive been checking out cars still. i don't plan on buying anything till this spring, but if something comes along that i cant refuse ill buy it. so i am pretty convinced the one i am looking at now is some sort of a scam. first off the asking price is less then half of the blue book value. there is no vin listed, he has the car listed as a rear wheel drive when its a front wheel drive car, the contact number rings to a fax machine and is unlisted according to anywho, and when i contacted the owner via email he says he is out of the country (london) but if i send him the money via some UK based paypal type service(the service looks pretty legitimate on there website) he will have the car delivered to my address included in the already ridiculously low price. he also claims that the title is clean and the car is in excellent condition.
I obviously have no intention of giving him any money unless i have the car and title in hand. the car is supposed to be in st louis....where i happen to know a few people who have recently moved there. I emailed him back to see if we could arrange a test drive with one of my friends there. ill continue to assume this is some sort of a scam, but if everything checks out ill gladly buy this car.

the curse of byron center ave
so yesterday i was driving to work and heard on the radio that the stretch of byron center ave just befor 28th st. on my way to work was blocked off due to a fire....sure enouph i get over there and its blocked off.
no big deal, i go around to ivanrest and head in to work. on the way home that day i see the dammage cause by the fire....this definaly wasnt a small fire, looks like it took out the good part of about 4 apartments. this moring i was driving to work and as im approching that exact same spot on byron center all the cars in font of my slow down and come to a stop. after a few minutes cars start merging into one lane and eventualy get around an accedent where it looked like someone ran into another car head on, and spun that car around the other way. in any case this obviously had just happened as i was approching and they where blocking 3 of the 4 lanes on that road. police where arriving as i pulled past, looked like nobody was hurt.
so this evening after FNM im bringing the work car back to the office as i was out on sight late and went strait to magic. i turn off 28th st. onto byron center ave, not half a mile from where the other 2 incedents took place and theres a cop car with his lights on sitting in front of what looked like a head on collision between another cop car and a truck. the odd part is there wasnt anyone in the cop car, or the truck as i was leaving the office and drove back past the accedent there where a number of other cop cars patrolling around obviously looking for someone, i definaly get the impression that whoever ran into the cop car didnt stick around to talk and looks like they took off on foot.
so in other news alan cox insisted on playing out top 4 again (we usualy split out top 4 for about 20$ store credit each) and again lost to yours truly, so he walked away with a measly 10$ credit and i split out top 2 for a total of ~30$ or so in credit. when will those guys (alan and josiha) learn to just split out top 4 so we can go home at a decent hour.

another long day
got home from work a little while ago and honestly right now im jsut in the mood to ramble....feel free to tune out if your not interested.
still here...ok, so drove up north this moring for work. left the house around 8 and fixed some internet in gaylord, atlanta, lewiston, and higgens lake befor getting back home around 10:20. after the 10 hour day yesterday this is going to be another big overtime week. got home and basicly went strait to bed, feeling lonly for some strange reason....moreso then usual, least the kittens are keeping me company. I finished by book last night. was reading the da vinci code. it was pretty good, ill have to watch the movie now one of these days.
not sure i want to get into another book right away. i dont have anything in mind currently that i want to read anyway. ill proly try to take the time to get through zelda now that chris has finished it. least now i only have to compete with the brother that dosnt live here for use of my wii.ill proly also finish full metal alchomist, watched disk 9 and 10 on sunday, just another 3 disks to the series and a movie. I also need to finish cleaning the house, chris an i had planed on getting it done this weekend. I was playing nintendo saturday morning when he finaly got out of bed and started cleaning, so i quit playiing and started cleaning too. 20 minutes later chris stole the nintendo and never got around to cleaning again....got a bunch of stuff picked up, and my laundry done, but definaly wouldnt consider the house clean.

wiikend
so this weekend i played a lot of video games. saturday we had a going away halo party for veen, he is moving to St. Louis in a couple weeks. That was lots of fun and I was there till 4am.
I had plans of waking up early sunday morning to find a Wii and figured 4 am was a good time to do some recon, drove past target, the people at the end of the line there said they where 18th in line for 24 consoles. drove past bestbuy who had 63 out of 63 in line...so figured id better not head home and catch some sleep like i had planned. dropped my little brother off at his house and picked up a sleeping bag to keep warm and went back to target.
turned out to be fairly unessisary as the last person in line that got a system was called in by someone in line and didnt show up till about 7:15
I got my wii and zelda at about 8:30 and went home. played for about minutes and went to bed. I woke up around 3pm and chris was still playing zelda, i headed over to Toms for anime night, ogg had got a Wii also and had it there. played some minigames on wii sports and monkey ball, was pretty fun and the controler is really nice. well worth the buy. seems like it will be a better party system then a gaming system, but ive got no problem with that. anyway, im going to quit slacking and get back to work.

another random blog
hi all, figured id fill you all in on what ive been up to latly. unfortunatly nothing too exciting. working lots of extra hours this week has kept me fairly busy. we have been having problems with our bandwidth up north all week, think we finaly got it resolved tonight, tom andy and i where working on it till about 8:30 this evening, ive already worked 38.5 hours this week and i have another shift tommorow. i had to skip out of a few dinner invites tonight to stay and work as well as walking with jesse and them. kinda sucks cause ive been meaning to go just about every night this week cause its been so nice out but something keeps coming up every night. went to veens last night to play mtgo, went to dinner with my aunt and her family the night befor.
the kittens are going to be home tommorow, they have been gone to the vets since tuesday to get declawed and spaid/neutered. i miss them. Andy just called me and let me know about a coupon at mijers for 30% off a 30 gig ipod. its good for tommorow only so im going to check into getting one at midnight tonight as im guessing they wont be easy to find if you dont get one right away.
not much else going on latly, been spending a lot of my free time reading the latest terry goodkind book. like the rest of em its pretty good.

**update** so went out to grandville meijers and there was a line of 8 people for the 5 ipods they had in store, I also heard rumor that all the other meijers around gr are sold out, and im sure even if there not there are already people waiting in line for em. so i gave up :(

just saying hi
Its been a while since i posted so figured Id let everyone know what ive been up to.
Nothing too exciting to report. went to roller dirby over the weekend, re-arranged my room over the last few days, went searching for stuff for my halloween costume for this weekend today. The costume im thinking of is going to be really hard to find befor saturday so if anyone can think of a good idea for me as a back-up plan id appreciate it.
I just finished watching whats out there for 'heroes'. Its a great show for those of you who havnt seen it yet. Now im just hanging out a bit with the kittens befor bed.
speaking of bed im going to head that way, woke up early this morning and im tired now.

yay overtime
quick shout out from the phone closet at alpena hospital. just drove out here to replace a cisco that fixed nothing. so ive been working since 8:30 this moring....its going on 10:30 at night, and i have a 5 hour drive home.
and im supposed to be back to work at 8:30 tommorow morning...although i have no intention of turning my alarm on when i get home.

fixed car (hopefully)
so only took a little over a week to diagnose, fix, find that it nots so fixed and push start my car to get to work re-diagnose, and refix ad nausium but im pretty sure it is actualy fixed now. basicly the root of the problem was that my alternator was screwed up and draining the battery when the car wasnt running. so for the last few days ive left the battery unplugged anytime i wasnt driving so i could track down an alternator for a decent price. managed to find one at the junk yard in dorr for only 35$, ive also replaced my headlights finaly, ive only had 1 working for almost 2 months now and the other one went out yesterday (i drove home last night with just the high beams)

spokane falls
Jim and I went out for dinner this afternoon to a place downtown that a freind of his works at. cant say i cared much for the food there but it was ok. then we went downtown to see if there where any good movies out. decided to wander around downtown instead.
we ended up at the park where they had added a nice spiffy fountain
we walked down the way a bit towards the waterfalls on the river. and decided to work our way down on the smaller falls where your not supposed to go, took a couple photos of jim and myself and proceded towards the bigger falls where your really not supposed to go.
it was getting dark but we got another picture of jim and myself and proceded to cross the chasm you saw earlier. jim and i tried to find a way back out on the other side of the river. after searching for a bit we managed to climb this 15 foot wall to get out. it was really getting dark by this time, but here is the canyon that we crossed as seen from the other side.
all and all lots of fun, i should probably go pack as my flight back home is at 7am tommorow moring, yay

romulan denny's, 8 years later and nothings changed
met up with beau, sean, dave, and jeff at ye old fathful romulan denny's(the denny's on argonne thats all green inside like a romulan ship) and man has nothing changed in the last 8 years. same old gang sittin around talkin comic books and video games. granted there were significantly less of us tonight then back in the old days, but it was great to just hand out with those guys again.
